Falling For The Bizarro Desserts Of Malaysia

After the laksa, things really start to get weird
Mar 25, 2013 9:02 am

"I'd grown comfortable demurring at desserts I found too weird, concluding that what a person prefers as a meal-ender is largely cultural. However, when I found myself in Penang, Malaysia recently, I didn't realize it but I was about to have these notions challenged." More, right this way...

With temperatures dropping to the lower twenties across the Northeast, bourbon whipped cream seems to make perfect sense: it's comfortingly creamy and the bourbon will keep you warm. If you have too much enough, you might even forget how cold it is outside! It's easy to whip up, and makes for the perfect topping for anything from banana pudding to poached pears.

The scent of clementine with rosemary reminds the Meringue authors of Tuscany, but that’s not where this meringue-lightened cake was inspired. Sometimes the best desserts come from a really great cocktail.

In Left Bank Chef Laurence Edelman’s words, this maple pie is “sugary, decadent goodness. Stupid-simple and completely real. You know exactly what you're eating. And that you're getting away with murder.” It's that easy.

This recipe for homemade baklava has been in my family for generations and is passed on from mother to daughter with great pride and secrecy, like a sacred text. Much to the probable dismay of my ancestors, I'm letting you in on our secret. Don't be intimidated by the dish's many steps, it's surprisingly simple.

Does Gender Affect How Much Sugar You Crave?

Science, and Facebook polls, hint at an answer
Jun 21, 2012 12:01 pm

Sugar is my drug of choice. I crave the sweet stuff like nothing else in my life.
