I'm particularly proud of the Smashed Potato Bomb, as I am with Quesadillas Benedict, because I made it up on the spot and it took exactly 10 minutes to cook. Well, that's not entirely true, I had a leftover baked potato from the night before, so that shaved off about half an hour. After you bake the potato (or if you use leftovers), it takes 10 minutes.

How Do You Microwave A Baked Potato?

And doesn't that make it a "microwaved potato?"
Mar 6, 2013 2:32 pm

Maybe we should just expand the terminology itself. But "cooked whole potato with the skin on" doesn't really flow. So baked potato it is, regardless of whether or not it's actually baked in an oven. That's right, a microwave can yield a baked potato. Here's how you do it.

Let's hear it for the side we all know and love: potatoes! There are at least a million ways to spin 'em, so believe it when we say narrowing all of our beloved potato recipes down to 25 was a challenge. But that's how much we care about our readers' side dishes.

Kumpir: A Hot Potato From Istanbul

Turkey's crazy street food never ceases to amaze
Dec 10, 2012 12:31 pm

Thanks to our editorial intern Laila, we've been pretty solidly educated on the glories of the various kinds of Middle Eastern street food she grew up with. First she brought Turkey's wet burger to our attention. Then we learned about koshary, the most delicious way to feed the most people with the least effort, via Egypt's Rachael Ray. Now with knowledge of kumpir — a specialty in Ortaköy, Istanbul — I'll attempt to reinvent the baked potato. Or at least use up a lot of leftovers all at once.

This party snack pays homage to three of my favorite other small bites — deviled eggs, chorizo potato tacos and potato skins. Frying the onions and garlic in some of the fat left over from browning the sausage adds an extra layer of flavor, plus frying onions in fat is one of the sacred pillars of tailgating.

Potatoes With Crème Fraiche And Caviar

This simple, yet very refined dish speaks to Chef Wolfgang Puck's craft: find the best ingredients you can, make everything from scratch and don't overcomplicate. These potatoes with caviar and creme fraiche are a frequent guest at the Oscars, wrapped in gold foil for extra panache. We'd gladly take one of these osetra-topped beauties over a useless statuette anyday.

When it comes to breakfast, especially with regard to bagels, I have no new information for you. You either smear or schmear, layer on the good stuff and chow down. But when it comes to lunch, provided you won't be eating it on an airplane, smoked salmon is the protein du jour.
