Whenever one of us is ill, the other will make this warming ginger drink—it’s perfect for that nasty cold or an upset stomach—and it only takes 20 minutes to make. The best part is that it can be paired with rye whiskey or rum for a winter cocktail. This drink holds special significance for us as this was one of the first drinks we made that we tried to carbonate and transform into a soda—six months later Brooklyn Soda Works was formed. We still make this same drink for each other whenever one of us is feeling in need of a pick-me-up.
Ingredients
- 4 oz ginger root, sliced

- 10 whole cloves
- juice of 1 lemon

- Simmer for 20 minutes
- Add in cloves and simmer for additional 5 minutes

Optional: use more ginger for increased spice level. Or you can substitute an orange for the lemon, and throw some of the orange zest along with cloves.
