San Francisco–based Guittard is the gold standard of chocolate, which is why chefs ask for it by name. The company's new cookbook is a collection of five generations' worth of recipes for everyone's favorite chocolate desserts. When it comes to baking, especially for something simple, we like this sweet spin on malted chocolate balls.

If you would like a different way to eat one of our favorite candies, try this recipe — I think it's even more moreish than nibbling the chocolate balls from the bag! Take time to add the suggested decoration to the top of this delicious tray bake — it makes all the difference.

Ingredients
  • 7 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Scant 1 cup milk chocolate
  • 3 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 2 cup finely crushed graham crackers
  • 1 cup malted milk chocolate balls
  • 1/2 cup malted milk chocolate balls
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate
  • 1/4 cup milk chocolate
Directions
  1. Grease a shallow 8-inch square cake pan with extra butter, and line base and sides, with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium pan, melt together the butter, milk, chocolate, and syrup, stirring together until smooth. Add the crushed graham crackers and stir until well coated in the chocolate mix. Add the chocolate balls and stir together quickly so that the chocolate covering on the outside of the balls does not melt.
  3. Tip into the prepared pan, press into an even layer, and chill until set. Lift out of the pan, using the paper, and cut into small squares to serve. For a special occasion, before cutting, sprinkle with the chopped chocolate balls, and drizzle with alternate lines of the melted white and melted milk chocolate.
