Musician Peter Buck Just Compared Pretzel Sandwiches To Funk Metal

He's best known as the guitarist for legendary band R.E.M., but it turns out that Peter Buck could have an alternative career as a food critic. In the latest episode of the Pitchfork series Over/Under, which gives guests 8 or so topics and asks whether they're overrated or underrated, Buck becomes vitriolic while talking about pretzel sandwiches. "I don't like pretzels in any consistency," he says, seated alongside Sleater-Kinney's Corin Tucker (his bandmate in Filthy Friends). "And that whole thing where they give you a sandwich and it's on a pretzel? It's like... funk metal. Don't put those things together, ever." Pacific Northwesterners Buck and Tucker also riff on Portland's dining scene, Cheez Whiz and more. Watch it below.
