Americans Are Ill-Informed About Genetically Modified Foods

It seems that new information about genetically modified foods is always popping up, and the reviews are always mixed.

NPR reports that a survey done by the Pew Research Center found that over one third of Americans believe that consuming genetically modified foods is bad for your health. However, a National Academy of Sciences report found that GMOs are, in fact, safe to consume.

Additionally, the survey concluded that Americans simply do not care about GMOs. Forty-six percent of Americans surveyed said they care little to not at all about GMOs, while only 16 percent of those surveyed said they care "a great deal" about GMOs. Only 24 percent of the public would like government officials to take a strong stance in the issue.

The survey also highlights the fact that Americans don't believe scientists have the public's best interest in mind, though they still trust scientists more than politicians.
