Juice Bar Strip Clubs, India Bans Beef, Aaron Sorkin Lunchables, WastEd Pop-Up

Welcome to the afternoon roundup! If it happened in food today, it's news to us. Here are a few stories that have caught our attention.

Juice Bars: A juice bar...strip club? That's right. Adult-website owner Shane Harrington is trying to open up a series of nudist juice bars along Interstate 80 in Nebraska, swapping alcohol for green juice and smoothies. He's currently facing opposition from local church and community leaders.

India: The state that includes Mumbai — India's financial capital — became the latest in the country to ban the possession and sale of beef, imposing fines and up to five years in prison for violations. The law took effect Monday night after approval from the country's president.

Bagels: NYC favorite Black Seed Bagels is launching a month of limited-edition bagel sandwiches created by some of the city's most well-known chefs. Each week, starting Monday, March 9, one such sandwich will be available on the menu for the entire week. Participating chefs include Ivan Orkin, Alex Guarnaschelli, Danny Bowien and Missy Robbins.

Spanish Wine: Spain's wine industry had a record year in 2014, posting numbers that could propel it past Italy as the world's biggest wine exporter. While exports soared 22 percent, however, profits fell. How is this possible? The country exports the majority of its wine in bulk, cheaply, without bottling it.

Food TV: Miss last night's episode of Broad City? Be sure to check out all the celebrity-inspired food illustrations that made it on the show. Included: Jane Goodall's beer flight, Aaron Sorkin's Lunchables and Sarah Jessica Parker's hamburger.

NYC Restaurants: Dan Barber's Blue Hill restaurant will turn into a rotating guest chef pop-up called WastEd on March 13, and continue through the end of the month. The high-profile experiment's goal is to waste nothing each night, creating a menu devised from leftovers like stems, peelings, rinds and bones. The chef lineup was just announced and includes Daniel Humm, Dominique Ansel, Mads Reflund, Danny Bowien, Bill Telepan, April Bloomfield, Mario Batali, Sean Brock, Alain Ducasse and Brooks Headley.

NYC Events: The Pines in Gowanus is hosting Brooklyn Brewery on Monday, March 9, for a special beer dinner. Chef John Poiarkoff will pair dishes like venison and foie gras torchon, beer-steamed clams and dry-aged beef strip loin with a selection of Brooklyn's "big bottles" of limited-edition beers, some refermented 100 percent in the bottle. Entry for one is currently available for $85.
