The Old Fashioned is one of America's greatest cocktails. The Agave Old Fashioned that we feature here at Empellón Cocina has a bit more of a richness and smokier edge than most. I use two mezcals in this drink: a clear mezcal with a smokey back burn and a mezcal that is aged in wood, which gives the drink body.

An Old Fashioned also always has sugar and bitters. Instead, to give ours a Mexican twist, we use a spice agave nectar and chocolate mole bitters.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 ounces Fidencio 'Clasico'
  • 1/2 ounce Ilegal resposado
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 3 dashes chocolate/mole bitters
  • 1/4 ounce agave nectar
Directions
  1. Stir and strain on ice.
  2. Garnish with a large orange twist and serve.
