Cachaça Files: The Cuca Effing Way Cocktail Recipe

A drink with cachaça, Brazil's national spirit

Cachaça is a liquor made from fermented sugarcane juice and is now recognized by the U.S. as a distinctive product of Brazil, instead of as a "Brazilian rum." In June 2014, the World Cup will be held in Brazil, followed by the Olympics in 2016. This could mean for cachaça what a similar sporting coup a few decades back did for tequila. A year before the Olympics were held in Mexico, the country signed a treaty with U.S., which led to a great increase of tequila being sold in the States.

So you'll want to get a head start and mix up cachaça cocktails immediately. Like this one, which comes to us from New York's Evelyn Drinkery in Alphabet City. It contains Cuca Fresca, a premium organic cachaça.

Look for a big jump in the sale of cachaça in the U.S. following Brazil's World Cup and Olympics.
