Los Angeles. November, 1969. The interview between The Doors frontman Jim Morrison and journalist/filmmaker Howard Smith begins.
Jim Morrison: Are you hungry?
Howard Smith: Why do you ask that?
Jim Morrison: Well, maybe we could order out for some sandwiches or something. Chicken delight or something.
Blank On Blank, in collaboration with PBS Digital Studios, has animated the colorful exchange that details Morrison’s eating habits in college. Apparently, he ate a lot of mashed potatoes. “I felt like a large mammal, a giant beast….fat is beautiful.” Kids, stay in school. Don’t do drugs.
Blank on Blank is a multimedia nonprofit with a simple mission: curate and transform unexpected interviews with icons and everyday Americans. They help journalists dust off their prized tapes, minidiscs and digital recordings. Those saved interviews gathered to write articles, books, to make radio, that few people ever got to hear. Until now.
