There’s Great Debate As To Where The Beer Koozie Was Invented? Or Is It Coosie?
Who's behind the genius idea: Australia or the USA?
There are myriad names on the books: coastie, stubby holder, cozy, coosie, coldy-holdy, beer hugger, and even more debate as to who actually invented the thing. We’re talking about that great vestige of the 1980’s, one that still holds a presence at NASCAR tracks and fraternity dance floors (and beer festivals), to this day: the beer koozie.
Mixing functionality with style (and branding opportunities), the koozie keeps your can of beer cool while expressing the drinker’s personality in the form or a favorite slogan, professional sports allegiance or philosophical viewpoint.
But where was the koozie invented? It’s a question journalist Kevin Carranza answers in a story for Birchbox. Without spoiling the writer’s playful yarn, we’ll say that the concept dates back 100 years and has been found in England, Australia and the United States — three countries that love them some beer.
