Stay Here: Design & Wine Hotel in Caminha, Portugal
Here's a good place to sample Portuguese wines
It's Fantasy Travel Week at Food Republic, and here's a place that we're sure will be making it on to a lot of your wish lists. This modern boutique hotel in Portugal has a name that literally spells out a few of our favorite travel pleasures. Located in the northwestern coastal town of Caminha, Portugal, the Design & Wine Hotel features just 23 suites and rooms, each incorporating a design theme and style that vary eclectically — from Tron to Shakespeare.
The hotel opened last May in a renovated 18th-century manor, featuring modern-day, eco-conscious characteristics like solar panels and energy-conserving lighting schemes, as well as a head-spinning side annex housing five additional suites. The steel structure actually rests on a 2-meter column that rotates 35 degrees, allowing for a constant pan of the area's vistas. There's also an on-site gallery, the Whitebox, for exhibitions and art events.
Living up to its name, you can find respite at the hotel's enoteca and get a taste for local wines, especially the copious offerings of vinho verde (translates to "green wine," meaning a young wine), made from the area's Alvarinho and Loureiro grapes.
Perhaps the best part, rooms start at only 80 euros per night (approximately $105). How's that for dreaming? Images below.
