Updated: Hurricane Sandy Benefits And Ways To Help In New York City And Beyond
Here's how you can help hurricane victims
As we hit the two-week mark since the devastating hurricane hit the Northeast, we’re still faced with the cruel reality of power outages, business closures and widespread displacement. Members of the restaurant community have teamed together to host a number of benefits. Here are a few that have come to our attention (and inboxes). Also see Grub Street New York’s comprehensive list of benefits. Please leave any updates in the comments.
Today, Tuesday, November 13, Guy’s American Kitchen and Bar will donate 50 percent of all proceeds to the American Red Cross.
On Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m., the Tasting Table Test Kitchen & Dining Room in Manhattan will be holding a fundraising party to support local victims. A $100 ticket includes an open bar and hearty menu created by executive chef Brendan McHale. Visit tastingtablehurricanerelief.eventbrite.com for tickets and more information.
This Friday at 7 p.m., Roberta’s in Brooklyn is hosting Rockaway Relief with HeritageRadioNetwork.org and VANS. Tickets are $30 and include pizza and beer, and there will also be a raffle. Visit rockawaypizzaparty.eventbrite.com for tickets and more information.
The Shanty in Brooklyn has been set up as a pickup site for meals. Hot or cold food delivered between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. until Friday will be picked up in a van provided by the city and distributed to some of the areas hit hardest. Contact 718-878-3579 for more information.
FoodtoEat.com is hosting a “Food Crawl” event this Saturday in the East Village. All proceeds from the $10 tickets will be donated and there will be roughly 15 participating venues, each featuring a specialty food or drink item offered as a free tasting or at a discounted price. See fullfallcrawlfoodtoeat.eventbrite.com for details and to purchase tickets.
Bring in a blanket to any location of The Meatball Shop and receive a free order of “naked” meatballs.
From now until December 31, Alain Ducasse's Benoit is donating $1 of each check to Hurricane Sandy relief. $10 of each sale of his J'Aime NY book will also be donated to the cause.
