Eau De Umami? Sushi Cologne Is Now For Sale On Amazon
But what does it actually smell like?
From the people who brought the world chocolate chip cookie eau de toilette and a fragrance that resembles Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, there is a cologne now available that brings to mind “just cooked sticky rice and straight from the seaside seaweed, laced with hints of ginger and lemon essences.”
That is correct, sushi is now wearable, as first reported by the aroma sleuths at Food Beast. But it brings into question: Is the essence of sushi more about the rice than the fish? As Anthony Bourdain noted in his response to our 12 Sushi Commandments, “the most important commandment: it's just as much about the rice as the fish.” Also, spraying the scent of “just-cooked sticky rice” over your neck, arms and ankles (?) sounds a little better than spraying the scent of “freshly caught Spanish mackerel” over your neck, arms and ankles (?).
A 4 o.z. bottle of Sushi Cologne By Demeter will set you back $31 via Amazon, who in a charming touch of sexism labels the product for “women” — like a man isn’t about to spritz some seaside seaweed before hitting da club.
