10 Cocktails For Summer Drinking
Kick off summer right with these refreshing drinks
Punches, tequila drinks, mojitos. What's not to love about summer drinking? We picked 10 of our favorite summer cocktails, including a rum-based twist on the Negroni, your new go-to brunch cocktail (with carrot juice) and a tandoori tequila cocktail that calls for grilled pineapple. Plus, we threw in updated versions of summer classics like the margarita and daiquiri. So reach for the seasonal fruit, summer spirits and ice, and get mixing.
The Bramble
This London cocktail was created by Dick Bradsell in the 1980s and became an instant hit. And for good reason — the drink is simple to make and heavy on summer fruit flavors like blackberry and lemon.
Fraternité Punch
You'd be hard pressed to find any drink more convivial than a summer punch — at least that's what our columnist Simon Ford thinks. This one calls for Lillet, cognac, champagne and Roobios tea and is topped off with strawberry slices.
New Orleans Buck
If you love the mimosa, you'll love its predecessor — the buck — even more. Created in New Orelans in the 1920s, this rum- and orange juice–based drink is the ultimate for midday imbibing.
Hyderabad Mojito
Not only is this drink incredibly refreshing, it will also transport you to the palaces of India. Concocted in Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, India, this mojito calls for a cooling blend of cilantro, orange and Sprite that's sure to keep you cool wherever you are.
El Negroni de la Hacienda
This tropical twist on the Negroni subsitutes rum for gin, making it a perfect summer afternoon drink. For more variations on this Campari-based drink, check out our Negroni Week coverage.
Pomegranate & Mint Margarita
If you master one margarita recipe this summer, make it this one. The addition of pomegranate and mint make this drink even more refreshing than your usual margarita while giving it a boost in flavor.
Invasión Francesa Cocktail
This tequila concoction calls for tarragon, peas and lime juice, which we're pretty sure makes it a health drink. It's also worth noting that it was created by Mexican chef extraordinaire Julian Medina, who knows his way around a tequila bottle.
Broadway's Alibi Cocktail
This summer, let the Alibi cocktail replace your weekend Bloody Mary. Carrot juice, tequila and lemon make this the perfect summer hangover concoction. It might even inspire you to buy a juicer.
Sorrel Daiquiri
We highly recommend putting herbs in your cocktails, especially when the recipe is as excellently balanced as this one. Find out how to make your own sorrel simple syrup (it's easy) and add a leaf to the top of your glass for presentation.
Tandoori Tequila Cocktail
Need we say more than grilled pineapple? This drink embodies everything we love about summer — grilling, fresh fruit and tequila. And the addition of a pepper adds a welcomed amount of spice to offset the sweet fruit.
