Video: Christina Tosi, Before She Was Famous

Around these parts we love Momofuku pastry princess (more She-Ra) Christina Tosi. She gives candid interviews, like her boss David Chang, and has created some of the most inventive desserts around. Apparently, we're not alone in our admiration. On Monday, Tosi won the James Beard Award for Rising Star, a category crowded with both savory chefs and men. She was the underdog and this was a shocker.

But before the Beard Award, her award-winning cookbook, spot on Vice Munchies and a robust mail order business, she was making cookies in her tiny East Village shop. This is where filmmaker Caleb Heller found her in October 2009 in his short called, appropriately, "Cookies."
