It's Homemade Burger & Fries Week On Food Republic!

Oh sure, we made the traditional cheeseburger and fries. But wait, there's more!

Sizzling beef on the grill—it's what's for dinner.

Recently, we here at Food Republic decided to go on a mission, to develop tasty burger and fries recipes that you could make at home. We met in FR HQ in money-makin' Manhattan, putting together the strategy: We'd get beef from Dickson's Farmstand Meats in Chelsea Market, different types of buns, an assortment of cheeses and condiments. Plus potatoes and oils for homemade French fries. Then, we'd pack it all up and head to the Food Republic Secret Test Kitchen deep in Brooklyn's Gowanus neighborhood.

What followed was an all-day orgy of grilling beef and frying fries. We listened to great tunes, drank a few (OK, a lot of) beers and cooked burger after burger until we'd settled on just the right combination of seasonings and settled on the best techniques. Whether it's shaping the perfect patty or switching from grill to cast-iron skillet, we've officially got you covered. It's taken a few weeks to put our heads right again after that gluttonous afternoon, but we're happy to say we're ready to deliver recipes, how-to's and, perhaps most importantly, burger porn — all this week on Food Republic.

We started things off yesterday with a primer on making your own hamburger buns, then followed up with a classic All-American Cheeseburger Recipe.

And to drink...beer, of course. But which ones?
