Recap: Yesterday's Twitter Live Chat

Yesterday's Twitter live chat, hosted by Food Republic and Marcus Samuelsson, helped to raise awareness and funds for those affected by the famine in East Africa. Some of our favorite people in food – Andrew Zimmern, Aaron Sanchez, John Besh, Michael Voltaggio, Beau McMillan, Foodspotting.com and Food + Tech Connect's Danielle Gould, to name a few – came together under one hashtag to discuss the social responsibility that comes with hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers and Facebook fans. Andrew Zimmern of Travel Channel's Bizarre Foods joined Food Republic's chat, "because raising awareness about hunger issues in E Afr is vital. I have been there. I am a global citizen."

Marcus tweeted, following the 30-minute live chat, "I'm very proud & grateful for having such amazing colleagues who are willing 2 start a conversation about something that matters."

As the half hour was drawing to a close, Chef Beau urged all those involved to "Support @FoodRepub efforts, this conversation doesn't stop here." Don't forget to visit our eBay page, where chef collectibles are still up for grabs, and place your bid before the auction ends in just a few hours. All proceeds benefit UNICEF during this time of crisis, and your support is greatly appreciated.
